JODI COLLINS - miss popinjay creations
ABOUT
Jodi studied at Media arts at Waikato institute of technology graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor in Media arts and honors.

Involved in the local art community, such as the Raglan ‘Old school’ art centre, taking part in the clay shed community kiln where she runs an after school clay program with children.

Not just a painter and limited by one medium Jodi makes a broad range of creations with a coherent style yet every piece is unique. Seeing the beauty in unwanted possessions and giving them a new lease on life, upcycling found objects she then transforms them into something weird and wonderful,

Inspired by childhood nostalgia, reminiscent of fairytale themes, her works have been described as playful and dream like, peculiar and even comical.

You can find her and her creations at ‘Hello studios’ 11 Bankart Street Raglan, where she shares open studios and gallery with four other creative individuals. Offering Raglan locally made goods and a unique intimate experience to both meet and purchase directly from each artist.  Her work consists of paintings, ceramics, collage, toys and jewelry.

MELISSA MCMAHON - Circulate
ABOUT
In the beautiful oceanside scraggle of Raglan, amongst sandy surfers and sunkissed faces, lives and creates TRASH GIRL, founding member of CIRCULATE, aka Melissa McMahon. An educator and activist through design, she creates and partakes in a number of artistic adventures to raise awareness and challenge perspectives on all the stuff people call ‘waste’.

Through the rescue of resources, from the teeth of the local recycle centre, Xtreme, Melissa endeavors to show us all how our rubbish can become treasure. Her current project, DUMPSTER HOODIES, involves the selection and transformation of forgotten favourite jumpers into quirky, earthy new ones, each uniquely handcrafted to be reused and re-loved.

Due to their shared passion, she is chief of Graphic Design and Marketing for fellow Raglan anti-wasters TRASH FOOTWEAR. Together they produce conscious practical art to promote upcycling as a means to reduce waste.

A Media Arts graduate of Waikato Institute of Technology, Melissa is also a visual architect of spaces, designing and constructing market and exhibition displays, for events such as the 2012 Auckland Sustainable City Showcase and Hamilton Womens Expo.

Melissa is currently searching for more super creative heroes to join the fight against villainous unthriftiness. Because the land’s belly is full and there’re no more excuses. Get in touch with Circulate to join the team.

ANNA FAIRLEY
ABOUT
I started painting after visiting some of the major art galleries in Europe 11 years ago. I am self-taught and am inspired by children’s book illustration. As a kindergarten teacher, I do most of my painting in the school holidays. What I enjoy about the process of painting is the way my work takes on a life of its own as I enter into a narrative, which I am only partly in control of. I start with an interesting image and inevitably a sense of the ridiculous creeps in as I paint.

CLARK BARDSLEY - Seeing Things
ABOUT
Seeing Things is a side project of industrial designer Clark Bardsley.

Clark grew up in Whatawhata, and studied Industrial Design at Victoria University in Wellington. 4 years in London saw him make his name as a designer. He now runs a design studio - CBD Ltd - in Auckland. The cut and paste of creating collages is an antidote to the structured creativity of designing furniture and products. Each work is arrived at by chance combinations and seeing parallels within often contradictory images.

ABOUT
My name is Sarah, I'm a freelance graphic designer / illustrator / creative, soon-to-be located in a beautiful little beach town, Raglan. I love all things beautiful and often a little quirky. These include mental heath support worker using creativity as a means of rehabilitation, sales and design for a vineyard, art and photography teacher, an at risk youth mentor/art teacher and most recently a little freelance design.

SIMON WILLISSON
ABOUT
Simon Boyer-Willisson - designer, creator, artist, writer.

Simon started his career as an advertising copywriter in London before moving to New Zealand, and he spent the next 20-odd years working creatively winning awards in this industry in New Zealand and Australia.

Back in London with his Kiwi wife Renee in 2006 for her ‘OE’, Simon had become disillusioned with advertising and decided to retrain. He discovered the BA(Hons) in Technical Theatre at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, in north London, which allowed him to combine his existing creativity and 'ideas' expertise with his practical artistic and construction skills.

The first year of the BA(Hons) gave him a broad overview of the whole theatrical production process, and he then decided to major in set design and construction. He graduated in 2008 with first class honours and received the Diana Boddington Award for outstanding contribution to technical theatre.

After the birth of their daughter, Renee and Simon decided to return to New Zealand. Simon is now based in the Waikato and working freelance as a theatre designer (including props and scenic painting) and set constructor.

He also uses his skills professionally in other areas, including painting murals, building playground equipment, designing outdoor areas and creating unusual letterboxes.

TIM TURNER & TRACEY BRECHELT
ABOUT
TnT Creative consists of Tracy Brechelt and Tim Turner of Raglan; a multi faceted creative pair who work with anything from wood through to paper, stone, metal and almost anything they can lay their hands on, often reclaimed materials sourced from recycle centres and or past creative endeavors.

Tim's works focus on the use of empty space, the shadows created by this and the opposite of this in the negative or positive depending on how you look at it, the fact too that from the negative, positive is created.

Tracy's work is a lighthearted use of furniture optimising the use of light objects.

"Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance"
